Shari, I think you meant to write "cultural appropriation" when you used the word "colonialism," which referred to countries such as Britain and France controlling regions in Africa and elsewhere in the Third World.
Thanks for commenting, Ken! I actually meant to write colonialism, because the point I'm making is that colonialism is the CAUSE of cultural appropriation. The very act of colonialism itself CANCELLED non-white-European culture, voices, and stories, among many other things (such as their existence). And colonialism is the reason that the issue of cultural appropriation has even surfaced and minority writers are screaming to take their voices and their stories back.
